 Men's Member/Guest

Saturday September 18

UPDATE: We have nearly 30 people signed up so far this first week. This event promises to be a great time and we would like to have as large a turnout as possible. If any member is interested, but don't have any guests to invite, please sign up anyway, and we will be putting teams together. If you are not a member, but still interested, give your name to Bob Caron, and as members need to fill teams, you will be welcomed to play.

The Men's Member/Guest Tournament is scheduled for Saturday September 18. All men members are welcome and invited to participate. There will be a 9 am shotgun start with our famous Prime Rib dinner following. The tournament format will be Best Ball, with gross and net individual and team scores. We are working on a good list of prizes for the event. If any member would like to donate a prize personally or from their company, please contact Bob Caron or Wayne Newbegin (Tournament Committee Chair).

Each member may invite up to 3 guests. The cost is $60 per player. Please call the Pro-Shop or sign up on the Member's Bulletin Board. There will be a limit of 18 teams (72 players), so be sure to get your name and your guests names on the sign up sheet early. If you or your guest would prefer chicken instead of Prime Rib, please make a note on the sign-up sheet. A USGA Handicap will be required or at least 5 scorecards from any golf course.

Handicap Committee News

The Handicap Committee has been working very hard to help bring our Club's use of the GHIN Handicap System into compliance with USGA standards, which will then help provide much more accurate and fair handicap's to all of our members that use them. An accurate and honest handicap is important to insure fair play and competition between golfers of different ability.

A GHIN Handicap is required for many of the Club's tournaments, such as the President's Cup, Naples Cup, Governor's Cup, Club Championship, Men's League, and the Men's Member Guest.

The accuracy of your handicap can be significantly affected by not posting all of your scores, not adjusting your scores prior to posting using the ESC, and not being honest about recording your actual strokes and penalties.

The Handicap Committee strongly urges you to post all of your scores as soon as possible after completion of your round. All scores are required to be posted, regardless of how different they may be from your average. This will provide an accurate representation of your progress as well as assist the club in managing the course handicap system and its allowances.

If you do not know how to adjust and/or post your scores, please see Bob Caron or any of the members of the Handicap Committee who would be more than pleased to teach you how to do it.

We only have a few more scrambles left! The Scramble schedule ends on Sept 7, but if we have enough interest, we will have another on Sept 14. This week, we still had openings for 3 teams. Also we now are starting at 4:30, so don't be late!

Starting this next week, The Sandtrap Grille will be offering a quick and easy buffet meal after the Scramble instead of the regular menu.

Member "Get Acquainted" Tournament

Saturday Aug 28-9:30 am

UPDATE: We have 16 players signed up so far! We are well on our way to another fun time. Members can invite friends, so be sure not to miss the fun!

Our Member-Member  "Get Acquainted" Tournaments are growing in popularity and if you have not tried it, come on out and give it a shot. Since the last format was so much fun, we decided to do the "6-6-6" format again this time. Six holes are "alternate shot", six holes are "best ball", and six holes are a "scramble".

This is a fun event for all players. The teams are drawn according to ability so that each team has an A, B, C & D player, and that you get a chance to meet and play golf with someone new. All members are welcome and invited to participate. You may also invite guests to participate as well.

All Your Scores!

An accurate GHIN Handicap is key for fair play and it's a good measure of your progress in trying to improve your game.

What is a Handicap Index?

A USGA Handicap Index represents a golfer's potential for scoring. A handicap index of 14.5, for example, indicates that a golfer will, on his or her best days, shoot somewhere around 14 or 15 strokes over par.

Handicap Index is not an average of a golfer's scores, but rather an estimate of what the golfer might shoot on his or her best days.

What is a Course Handicap?

Course handicap is a number that tells golfers how many strokes they are allowed to take during a handicap round, and it is not the same thing as a handicap index. In fact, handicap index is used to determine course handicap.

Every golf course should have posted a chart showing course handicaps for players based on their handicap index and the slope of the tees played. For example, the chart may show that a 14.5 handicapper playing tees with a slope of 108 has a course handicap of 13; or playing tees with a slope of 138 has a course handicap of 16.

The course handicap accounts for slope rating and may award extra strokes on a difficult course, or take away strokes on an easier course.
