"Get Acquainted" 18 Hole Scramble

Sat June 26 - 9:30 start

NGCC is hosting a Members "Get Acquainted" Scramble this coming Saturday. We have many new members, as well as long time members, who don't know each other. This scramble is a way to get to know each other better, and have some fun doing it.

It will be a 4-person team 18 hole Best Ball Scramble, which means that each person hits a ball, then the "best ball" is used. Everyone hits from the "best ball" spot for the next shot. One score is recorded for each team. Members may bring guests to play as well. All teams will be put together by handicap (an A,B,C, D player per team) and everyone will be assigned to a team so that you can meet someone new.

The cost is $10 per guest for green fees. Carts for those wanting to ride is $12, and $5 for the prize money pool.

Sign up on the bulletin board, or call the Pro-Shop (693-6424)!

Don't Forget, Post Your Scores!

An accurate GHIN Handicap is key for fair play and it's a good measure of your progress in trying to improve your game.

Also, don't forget to "adjust" your scores according to Equitable Stroke Control (ESC). You need to adjust each hole's score down to the ESC according to your handicap level.

Equitable Stroke Control (ESC):

Course Handicap

9 or less  -     Max Double Bogey per hole

10-19     -     Max 7 strokes per hole

20-29     -     Max 8 strokes per hole

30-39     -     Max 9 strokes per hole

40-up     -     Max 10 strokes per hole

Golf Rule of the Week

Rule 27 Ball Lost or Out of Bounds: Provisional Ball

If a ball is out of bounds, the player must play a ball, under penalty of one stroke, as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played.

If a ball is lost as a result of not being found or identified as his by the player within five minutes after starting to search for it, the player must play a ball, under penalty of one stroke, as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played.

If a ball may be lost outside a water hazard or may be out of bounds, to save time the player may play another ball provisionally. The player must inform his opponent, and he must play it before starting to search for the original ball. If he fails to do so and plays another ball, that ball is not a provisional ball and becomes the ball in play under penalty of stroke and distance.

If it becomes known or virtually certain that he original ball is lost in a water hazard, then the provisional ball cannot be used. If the original ball is neither lost nor out of bounds, the player must abandon the provisional ball and continue playing the original ball.

Employee Focus

Tom Coady

Tom Coady is in his 5th season working part-time in the maintenance department under Rick Bouchard. Tom previously worked as Course Superintendant at Bridgton Highlands Golf Course for 16 years. He also has worked for a few years at Blacksmith Wineries, and is still working part-time at Everlast Roofing in Bridgton.

Tom lives in Bridgton and has three grown children, two of which have graduated college and one in college. In his spare time he likes to hike with his girlfirend and has a goal of climbing all the 4,000+ footers in Maine and New Hampshire, which is a challenge when working full time.

Tom is happy here at Naples and likes working outdoors with all of the daily challenges a golf course can provide. Tom has been primarily been working on our irrigation system, but he also has his Master Pesticide license.

Course Maintenance

Update

Work on the course is progressing well this last half of June. The reseeded road that used to cut across the 6, 7, and 8th fairways, have now been cut so the fairways run straight through. The new small trees planted between these fairways are doing well, and the two dead trees have removed. The 15th tee will be reseeded again this week. This next week, the crew will be edging some of the bunkers and working on the cart paths approaching the 1st and 5th greens.
