Men's League Needs More Players The Men's League can use more players this season. The first day is Thursday, June 3rd. If you would like to join, please call the Club House (693-6424) or put your name on the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. Since we need to make the teams up, the deadline to add your name is Wednesday by noon. Members and non-members are welcome to join! MSGA Tournament The MSGA (Maine State Golf Association) is holding their weekly tournament at Naples this coming Friday and Saturday (June 4 & 5). All amatuer members of golf clubs affiliated with the MSGA are welcome to play if they have a current GHIN handicap. We are expecting over 200 players during the two day tournament. The course will be open for public play after 2 pm each day.
The Maine Blues Festival will be back for its 5th year and Naples Golf Course will be participating again with the "New Blues Revue" band playing on our deck from 5-7pm. Come and join us for dinner, drinks and some beautiful music on the deck overlooking the golf course. New Blues Revue is the traditional host of the MBF All-Star Jam . Led by Jerry Smith on guitar and vocals, the New Blues Revue also features seasoned pros Krister Rollins on guitar, Jason Young on drums, Dave Engel on bass, and John Whitney. For more information on the Maine Blues Festival, go to : www.mainebluesfestival.com For more information on the New Blues Revue band, go to: www.myspace.com/newbluesrevue Course Maintenance Update Rick Bouchard and his crew have been busy on a variety of projects on the course. One of the extensive projects that Rick has been working on is getting the irrigation fully functioning on the back nine. Many irrigation heads throughout the back nine have not been working properly, and he has been repairing or replacing them one by one. All the fairways and tees have been fertilized this past week, and all the greens will be top dressed on Wednesday June 2nd. We are almost done with the Grub Season. Rick and his crew have been busy each day cleaning up after the grub damage and reseeding. As mentioned in the last newsletter, all of the fairways will be treated for grubs in late June or July, which should significantly reduce the problem for next year. The courses condition is very good and the crew is working very hard to improve it even further. Flowers / Brush Clearing Day We are planning another day for finishing planting the rest of the flowers on the back nine. We also would like to have a brush clearing day where we can start removing the brush that have been growing between the fairways on 12, 13, 14, and 15. If you would be willing to volunteer for a half day between 10 am and 3 pm to help with flower planting and/or brush clearing, please let Bob Caron know. We will be setting a date very soon.
